3082 Dementia – Specialist Workshops

Course Aims

The aim of this specialist course is to give learners the skills and in depth knowledge to provide individuals with the person centred care and emotional interaction that each individual’s dementia requires.

These courses are aimed at health and social care staff and healthcare professionals with a responsibility to provide care for people with a dementia.  It teaches the learner how to interact with people in order to understand their feelings and needs in order to provide the correct care.

Learners are to undertake practical assessment in the form of a workshop.

Course Content

On successful completion of this course the learner will be qualified to:

  • Operate within the legal boundaries with regard to caring for people with dementia and will include the following workshops:
  • Recognise the different types of care available including controlling care.
  • Memory box.
  • The art of reminiscence.
  • Spot the difference.
  • Feeling how the person with dementia feels.

We can also offer staff observations to see how the staff interacts with people with dementia in the workplace.
