Course Aims
The aim of this course is to give learners the knowledge and skills required to recognise and treat people suffering a contracture to a limb. Contractures are where a limb has a permanent shortening of a muscle in a joint and can occur for many reasons, such as paralysis, muscular atrophy, and forms of muscular dystrophy. Fundamentally, the muscle and its tendons shorten, resulting in reduced flexibility.
This course is aimed at nurses and carers with a responsibility to care for people suffering from contracture of limbs and its associated conditions which are commonly caused by people who are immobile, subject to continual bed rest, suffer from significant spasms and people who experience muscle weakness
