Course  Aims

The aim of this E-Learning course is to provide an overview of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and the implications they have for the service user and service provider.

Learners are to undertake an online assessment.

Course  Content

On successful completion of the course learners will be qualified to:

  • Define “Capacity” and explain the key principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Describe how these may be relevant to your service users and how they may impact on your own practice.
  • Provide a basic description of the assessment process required for assessing both mental capacity and the authorisation for depriation of liberty.
  • Describe the supporting framework and roles of others specific to these.
